Dog-Friendly Walks & Hikes

Morzine is surrounded by scenic trails that are ideal for hiking with your dog. Popular dog-friendly walks include:

- Riverside path along the Dranse : Central Morzine Please be aware that dogs must be kept on the lead. Poo bags available by the swimming pool and the 1st bridge. Its possible to make this a loop at any of the 3 bridges. You will also find the Ibex Woodyard Brewery on this trail, perfect to sneak in an afternoon beer.

- Lac de Montriond Loop: with water access and flat. Dogs must be kept on lead next to the lake. Why not purchase a 5 meter + lead so your dog can still swim and enjoy the lake.

- Lac Montriond to Ardent: Starting from the lake, head in the direction of Ardent Telecabine. This route is suitable for the whole family (1 short, steep section) and is fairly shaded. The route passes by the Ardent Waterfall which has a brand new viewing platform. After the platform your dog will have access to the river to cool off. Return the way you came.

- Col de Joux Plane: Looking for a stunning view of Mont Blanc? Drive to the Top of the Col de Joux Plan and park at the Parking La Bourgeiose. Make your way along the flat trail to the La Bourgeiose. Incredible views but very exposed, be careful walking your dog here in the hottest part of the day but great for a sunset/sunrise hike. Return the way you came.

- Morzine to Nyon Waterfall: Starting at the Fire station head along the path heading away from Morzine. This fairly flat trail is perfect for the whole family and is fairly shaded. Whilst dogs can be off lead here, keep an eye out for mountain bikes (its a shared path). Keep heading along the path until it takes a right turn and continue up for 5 minutes to the waterfall! Want to walk further? Make you way back down to the main path and cross the bridge into the Nyon Car park. Cross the carpark to the other side where the path continues all the way to Lac Mines D’Or.
Return the way you came.

In summer, some cable cars allow dogs (usually on a lead and sometimes muzzled). Always check lift policies before you ride and be careful of mountain bikes and guardian dogs.

Eating Out With Your Dog

Many restaurants and bars in Morzine welcome dogs, especially those with outdoor terraces. It’s always good manners to ask first and bring a small water bowl for your pup. Some of our favourites are the Alba in Saint Jean D’aulps (great terrace, amazing service and incredible food), the Rotonde in Morzine and the Ibex Woodyard.

📋 Essential Tips for Bringing Your Dog to Morzine

  • EU Pet Passport: Your dog must be microchipped and vaccinated (especially for rabies).

  • Leads and clean-up: Dogs should be on a lead in town and busy areas. Clean-up bins and free bags are widely available.

  • Weather awareness: Summer heat can sneak up, even in the Alps - carry water and avoid hiking during peak sun hours. The hottest part of the day is often 1-4pm. Remember whilst the water is often cold, dogs can still over heat when swimming - ankle deep dips are best!
